Mimicreme!

Thai Tea with Sweetened Mimicreme

Thanks to Spencer’s Market, I discovered Mimicreme, an incredible cream substitute made from almonds and cashews.

All this time I’ve been struggling to substitute for half-and-half, heavy cream, buttermilk, whipped cream, coffee creamer, and sweetened condensed milk with tragically disappointing results.  But not anymore.

Mimicreme is a godsend.  It is every bit as delicious as luscious, thick, sinful dairy cream, but surprisingly low in calories, fat, and sugar.  Its shelf life is far superior– these containers will last until 2014!

The blue sweetened variety tastes like sweetened condensed milk.  It’s perfect in Thai iced tea.  I’ve been trying to find a way to make authentic Thai tea sans dairy forever.  Today, the heavens broke open and the birds sang and Mimicreme saved me.

The yellow unsweetened variety reminds me of half-and-half or heavy cream.  This would be wonderful in baking.  Mimicreme also makes a green sweetened sugar free version which is made with corn sugar and sugar alcohols.

Mimicreme also makes whipped cream.  Whipped cream!  When’s the last time you fellow “lac-tards” had whipped cream?!  I can’t even think back that far.

Whole Foods does not stock this product, but here are a few places that do carry Mimicreme:
