Classic Cocktails

Here are a few of my favorite concoctions.  Note that all of mine are served on the rocks because I don’t have fancy-schmancy glasses, but I’ve included the proper bartending instructions anyhow.  Bottoms up!

Palm Beach
1 1/2 oz gin
1 1/2 tsp sweet vermouth
1 1/2 tsp grapefruit juice

Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass, or serve over ice.

Old Fashioned
2 oz whiskey of choice
1 tsp water
1 dash bitters
1 sugar cube

Muddle sugar cube, water, and bitters in a tumbler.  Add whiskey and stir.  Garnish with a twist of lemon peel, slice of orange, and a cherry.  Serve on the rocks.

Moulin Rouge
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
1 1/2 oz sloe gin
1 dash bitters

Stir with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.

The Easterner
2 oz rye whiskey
1 oz grapefruit juice
1/2 oz maple syrup

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with a grapefruit twist.

Manhattan
3 oz rye whiskey
1 oz dry vermouth
1 dash bitters

Stir well with ice cubes and strain into a cocktail glass.  Garnish with a cherry.

Futurity
1/2 oz sloe gin
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
2 dashes bitters

Mix with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.  (Or serve over crushed ice like a frozen margarita… )

Horse’s Neck
2 oz brandy
5 oz ginger ale (use Zevia, it’s delicious!)
2 dashes bitters

Place a lemon twist in a highball glass and drape one end of it over the rim of the glass.  Fill the glass with ice cubes.  Pour in brandy, ginger, ale, and bitters. Stir well.
